Well look at this lineup... It's a short set but it's being played by three of the greatest acts to ever grace this planet, so, just listen. This was recorded at a benefit for S.N.A.C.K., Students Need Athletics, Culture and Kicks, and this was the last group to go on. Other performers included Jerry Garcia, Tower of Power, Santana, Doobie Brothers and Jefferson Starship, it was quite the show.
I've got every bands performance so if I get some requests I can post them all, enjoy this one folks.

Hiya there! You’ve finally made it through your week. Today happens to be a very special day: it’s Mr. Jim James’ AND Mr. Patrick Hallahan’s birthday. It’s a wonder the universe could handle such a day! They're both turning a young 34 years old today. If you get the chance, send them some love!
Today, let’s honor a track from Bob Dylan and The Band’s legendary The Basement Tapes, released in the summer of ’75. Jim James and Calexico covered this track quite honorably for the Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There.

In honor of Mr. Levon Helm - whose music has touched us all – today’s “Kick Off Your Weekend” is a repeat of a previous post. However, we all know that it’s definitely a track (and a band) worth coming back to, time and time again.
Today, we’ll celebrate the music of Levon and The Band through My Morning Jacket’s cover of “It Makes No Difference.”
It makes no difference,
Where I turn,
I can't get over you
And the flame still burns.
It makes no difference,
Night or day,
Your shadow never seems
To fade away.
And the sun don't shine anymore...
And the rains fall down on my door...
Let’s not let ourselves get too down about the passing of such a legend and inspiration (hey, if there's a heaven I'll bet there's a kickass concert going on right now!) – let us appreciate the wonderful music that was created to lift us all up and appreciate all the wonderful things in the world, sweet and bittersweet.
Now there's no love,
As true as the love,
That lies untold.
And the clouds never hung
So low before.
It makes no difference,
How far I go.
Like a scar,
The hurt will always show.
It makes no difference
Who I meet,
They're just a face in the crowd
On a dead end street.
And the sun don't shine anymore...
And the rains fall down on my door...
These old love letters,
I just can't keep.
Just like the gambler says,
"Read 'em and weep."
And the dawn don't rescue me no more...
Without your love,
I am nothing at all.
Like an empty hole,
It's a lonely fall.
Since you've gone,
It's a losing battle,
Stampeding cattle,
That rattle the walls.
Long live the memory of Levon Helm! This world will miss you. Thank you for alllll the music.

The Steam Engine's tribute to the late Levon Helm culminates with a legendary lost record The Band recorded but never released. After The Last Waltz in 1978 The Band, sans Robbie Robertson, rejoined to make a new record. Robertson was the principal songwriter in the band so they needed someone to produce for them. Enter Jules Shear, a Sony recording artist that wrote Cyndi Lauper's single "All Through The Night." Sony rejected the album and it's been circulating amongst fans since. Here it is for you to enjoy.
Let's keep the Helm's in our thoughts/prayers/wishes during this difficult time and again, please buy music that will benefit the Helm Estate.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Don't forget to check out Levon and the boys in action with Bob Dylan.
And again...
As many of you know medical bills don't disappear when one passes so PLEASE do the Helm Estate a service and purchase music that Levon was a part of. One of the reasons he started his famous Midnight Rambles was to raise money for medical bills, he was sick for a long time with a very serious disease.

As I'm sure everyone is aware of at this point, Levon Helm of The Band (and many, many other endeavors) passed away yesterday after a long bout with cancer. He will be cherished for eons to come.

I have been on a classic rock kick lately. My personal time has been filled with The Who, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan and of course, The Band.
This is a killer soundboard recording that spans 3 wonderful nights in December of 1971 as well as some rehearsal recordings from the same time.
