Some #mmjfriday action. They pull out the Fela Kuti classic (listen to "Dondante" live...) "Trouble Sleep Yanga Wake Am." Mr. Michael Feld of "One Big Holiday" documentary fame initially turned me on to that. If you haven't seen his film then make sure to give her a watch right here.
As always, thanks to the taper. In this case Mr. Scott Bernstein (of the superb Hidden Track?). I'm like, pretty sure it's the same guy. Either way, the Hidden Track version is super cool and consumes good music at an incredible rate, and the one that taped this deal is obviously pretty darn cool, so, win win.

Arcade Fire released a new record yesterday, Reflektor, and so far I think it's pretty spectacular. I was able to get in 4 listens in but I was hooked after the first spin. The sound is pretty out there and it reminds me of the second Bon Iver album, their self-titled. Not from a sound/vibe perspective but that it's got an incredibly specific sound while be nothing like their previous work. It sounds as if they've been making music of this style for years.
This recording, at from the very recent Bridge School benefit, features new tracks from Reflektor and a never before played song called "I Dreamed a Neil Young Song" - with Neil Young.

Nashville's The Raconteurs have a new Thirdman Records Vault recording coming for the end of the year. It features the band at the famous Ryman Auditorium, in Nashville, and it's unclear if there is a live film to go along with it.
In other Jack White news though...The Dead Weather are in the studio and working on new material. They plan on releasing pairs of songs for the next year or so, culminating in a new LP in 2015. AND, The Raconteurs are also apparently working on some new jams, but no new material has yet surfaced.
The latest offering from the Arctic Monkeys, AM, has been on repeat over here since it was released. From cover to cover it's a choice listen. Some tracks remind me of The Black Keys, others, Velvet Underground, others have some Muscle Shoals soul, others have a Californian vibe. It's great and you should buy it.
We've long been fans of the Futurebirds over here at The Steam Engine. Their new record, Baba Yaga, is going to go down as one of my favorites of the year. As my bro-in-law points out the album plays like a greatest hits from a Southern rock band that has been together for decades. My favorite track is probably "Dig" - take a listen and you'll get it. It's as close as anyone has ever gotten to sounding like a version of My Morning Jacket - but they pull it off as their own and it's excellent.
Buy their records, go to their FUN F*CKING shows.
Hey guys. I'll be doing more than a single show a week soon, I promise!
For the time being, The Black Keys never hurt no one ever.
Non-stop has this mans newly released solo album been playing on my stereo the last few weeks. It's got a great Fall vibe for these recent, crisp evenings. T. Hardy Morris is the front man of The Steam Engine's long time favorites Dead Confederate. He put out a solo album after an album with side project Diamond Rugs, so he's been a busy man. Listen to this album non-stop guys. It's a great brand of alternative country, the rawness reminds of Jacksonville City Nights. Morris' dead pan, at times pubescent voice, really is incredibly unique.
Got this from the b*tchingly awesome Southern Shelter, thanks guys.
Happy #mmjfriday folks, it's been awhile.
Thanks Alex Widner.
